Department Zero was created by Paul and Sara Soseman in 2003. Prior to forming the agency, Paul lead marketing and advertising efforts for a regional chain of consumer electronic stores and later developed grassroots marketing efforts for Time Warner’s newly created Road Runner broadband internet service. Sara was leading traditional agency clients through the then new and confusing interactive advertising space for the entertainment, beverage, retail and travel categories.

They formed Department Zero with the idea that brands shouldn't have to compromise when it comes to non-traditional marketing. Clients should expect great customer service, strategically sound concepts and programs that deliver results. The company was designed to offer three core areas of expertise:

  1. Creative – combine strategic planning with unconventional concepts to engage, educate and build personal brand connections with consumers
  2. Operations – provide turnkey solutions and resources to implement and manage experiential and alternative marketing programs anywhere in the US
  3. Talent – cultivate friendly and knowledgeable event staff that accurately embody the products and brands they represent

Since opening its doors, Department Zero has doubled in size year after year, launched three offices, has been recognized as the 2nd fastest growing company in Kansas City in 2010 and honored as one of Kansas City’s Best Places to Work by Ingram’s Magazine.
