After more than 350 shows and over 125,000 people through it's doors, the scionLAB closed the doors at the end of April.
What was intended to be a six month pop-up venue turned into a centerpoint for creative expression in the Kansas City art and music scene. Nowhere else in Kansas City could an up-and-coming painter or photographer get a gallery space for free. Not only a great place for art and photography, the scionLAB was an incubator of energy and excitement in the underground music scene. In addition to the many hip-hop and garage band shows, the scionLAB was home to more than 100 metal shows that wouldn’t be seen in any other venue in Kansas City.
From everyone here at Department Zero and from Scion, thanks for your support, participation, attendance and especially for the amazing, raw creativity you all brought to this venue. Thanks for everything over the last two years, and keep on being creative!
